The Unwanted Gift
The Package
As she strolled through the door, a peculiar box caught her eye. It was addressed to her from the mysterious "Shrinkee Department." She couldn't help but feel a stirring of unease in her gut. What on earth could possibly be inside? Curiosity getting the better of her, she tentatively lifted the lid.
Inside lay a tiny, rubbery figure, no bigger than her hand. It took her a moment to recognize it as her step-son. The realization dawned on her that he must have shrunk himself and intended to mail himself to his girlfriend, Kelly. But why on earth would he think to send it to her address?
The Note
A shiver ran down her spine as she reached into the box once more. Her fingers brushed against a crumpled note. She unfolded it carefully, afraid of what it might say. The words were written in her step-son's distinctive scrawl.
"Dear Step-Mom," it read. "I know I'm a fuckup, but I thought this would be the best way to show you how sorry I am. I made a mistake when I tried to mail myself to Kelly. Instead of sending it to her house, I sent it to yours. Now, it's too late. She'll never know what happened. I'm so sorry. Love, your step-son."
The Consequences
Her heart sank as she read the words over and over again. What was she supposed to do with this tiny, helpless creature? And how could she possibly tell her step-son that he had made such a huge mistake? The weight of responsibility suddenly felt like an anchor around her neck.
The Realization
As she stood there, frozen in thought, a realization dawned on her. She was the only one who knew what had happened. She was the only one who could help her step-son now. And she was the only one who could take care of this tiny, helpless creature.
The Choice
With a deep breath, she made her decision. She would keep the tiny figure safe and sound. She would take care of it, just like she would take care of any other responsibility that came her way. And maybe, just maybe, in time, she would find a way to help her step-son, too.
The thought of having a constant reminder of her step-son's mistake sent shivers down her spine. But she knew that she couldn't turn her back on him now. She had to face the consequences of his actions, no matter how difficult they might be.
