Chapter 1: The Discovery
In the dimly lit alleyway, the figures moved with stealth and precision. Their footsteps echoed softly against the concrete walls, masked by the distant hum of passing traffic. The air was thick with anticipation, carrying with it the faint smell of garbage and urine. It was here, in this forgotten corner of the city, that they had been spotted.
A youthful man, no older than 20, was hunched over a dumpster, rummaging through discarded items. His eyes widened as he pulled out a small, unassuming object wrapped in dirty clothing. The object was thin and cylindrical, its surface smooth and cool to the touch. He hesitated for a moment, then sniffed cautiously. It didn't smell like anything out of the ordinary.
Carefully, he unwrapped the object, revealing a small tube about four inches long. Curiosity getting the better of him, he popped open the lid and peered inside. What he saw there left him speechless.
Inside the tube was a rolled-up piece of parchment paper, the size of a standard sheet of notebook paper. But it wasn't what was on the paper that shocked him. The paper was covered in intricate drawings and writings, all in a language he didn't recognize. The characters were curved and flowing, almost like a dance across the page. In the center of the drawing was a large circle, with smaller circles surrounding it. The circle in the center was filled with what looked like a star, while the smaller circles were filled with symbols he couldn't decipher.
He reached out a shaking hand, tracing the outline of one of the smaller circles. It felt almost alive under his fingertips. As he traced the circle, he felt a strange warmth spread through his body, like an electric current. Suddenly, he was filled with a sense of calm and serenity. He looked down at the drawing again, and this time, the symbols came into focus.
They were not symbols at all, but names. And the name in the center of the drawing was... Megan.
