The old man sat on his creaky wooden porch, staring off into the distance as the late-afternoon sun beat down upon him. Lily grinned widely at the familiar touch, bouncing on her heels excitedly. "Yes, grandpa!" she replied enthusiastically. "I have a story to tell you, okay? Can I tell you my story now?"
The old man nodded, leaning back in his chair and lacing his fingers together over his stomach as he prepared to listen. Lily took a deep breath, feeling the anticipation and excitement building within her. She had been waiting for this moment for so long—to share her most precious secret with the only person she trusted in the world. Opening her journal, she began to read aloud in a clear, steady voice.
